Working with the Most Advanced Technological Systems within Exciting Learning Environments

The School of Applied Technology offers students comprehensive instruction in highly professional, state-of-the-art settings that include:

Architectural Drafting and Design/CAD: Two technologically advanced drafting labs utilize the latest CAD software for projects as large and complex as skyscrapers and 21st century structures.
Electronics: A fully functional Electronics lab utilizes educational “assembly kits” for simulators and related projects. Students learn the physics and science behind how electronic devices work and the integration of electronic components for a variety of uses.
Manufacturing Technology: A state of the art Manufacturing Technology classroom workshop equipped with high tech HAAS CNC equipment to design and produce actual 3D models. Students utilize the latest CAD and Mastercam software that meet & exceed industry standards. Students learn how to program and operate all machine tools needed for honing 21st century skills. They have the opportunity to access TOOLINGU, an interactive online and blended learning system that augments and reinforces theory and hands on tasks for manufacturing students and professionals.

“College Connection Program” Earning College Credits in High School

Want to earn college credits before graduating high school? At PCTI, you have the opportunity to do just that! Over two dozen college courses ….some specific to career majors and others open to all PCTI students, are offered in affiliation with area colleges and universities. Some of PCTI’s higher education affiliates include: William Paterson University, Seton Hall University, Bergen Community College, Montclair State University, Berkeley College, Passaic County Community College, The Art Institute of Philadelphia, Syracuse University, Drexel University, UMDNJ (University of Medicine & Dentistry New Jersey), NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology), Rochester Institute of Technology, FDU and Hudson County Community College.

Certification Opportunities

Architectural Drafting & Design: All students take the AutoCAD Certification Exam. They graduate from the program as Certified AutoCAD users!


School to Careers Experience

PCTI maintains a very strong and supportive School to Careers Program, offering students the opportunity to “job shadow” as well as the opportunity to put their skills to work at a paid position in the workplace. Hundreds of students participate... and hundreds of business partners support our efforts by employing our students.

Craftsman’s Fair/Over the years, hundreds of awards have been won in the School of Applied Technology.

    • SkillsUSA gold medals in architecture, mechanics, and suitcase display
    • 5 time winner of the NJIT Open Competition (Drafting)
    • Winner of the NYIT National Competition (Drafting)
    • 2 time winner of the New England Institute of Technology Award (Drafting)
    • Winner of the prestigious NAACP/ ACTSO competition for 2005-2006 (Drafting)
    • Dozens of individual student winners in the New Jersey Craftsman Fair competition (All areas)
    • 1st Place Winner for Model Design from Stevens Institute and NJIT (Drafting)

    Skills USA: Student skills are put to the test through frequent competitions at the local, regional, state and national level. Over the years, Applied Technology students have been the recipients of numerous awards including:
  • 3 National Finalists at SkillsUSA (Drafting and Manufacturing Technology)
  • SkillsUSA gold medals in architecture, mechanics, and suitcase display
  • Craftsman’s Fair – hundreds of awards have been won in Electronics, Drafting and Manufacturing Technology.

 

Organizational Affiliations

Applied Technology students are members of the prestigious Skills USA organization, promoting excellence in workmanship. Architectural Drafting & Design students are affiliated with the internationally recognized AutoCAD Certification program. Manufacturing Technology students are affiliated with the exciting national NASA Hunch Program (High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware). As a NASA contractor, PCTI students can manufacture parts that will go to the International Space Station!
