PSEG

Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) hosted a dynamic and inspiring PSEG Day, bringing together more than 75 students for a hands-on look at career pathways in the skilled trades. The event, held in partnership with PSEG, focused on workforce readiness, union apprenticeships, and the abundant opportunities available in essential service careers many of which do not require a traditional four-year college degree.

Throughout the day, students engaged with PSEG professionals, learning firsthand about the company’s mission, workplace culture, and the vital role that skilled trade workers play in powering communities across New Jersey. Informative presentations and interactive activities gave students insight into careers in energy, utilities, and infrastructure, fields that offer both job stability and upward mobility.

One of the most exciting outcomes of the event was the awarding of on-the-spot job offers to seven PCTI students. Students from the Construction Technology CTE programs, including plumbing, welding, and electrical interviewed for open positions and demonstrated their knowledge of real-world skills they've developed through their coursework. These offers mark the beginning of promising futures in roles that offer not only competitive pay and benefits but also meaningful, purpose-driven work. Apprenticeship opportunities highlighted during the event included positions that can lead to supervisory roles and six-figure salaries within just a few years—a clear testament to the value of hands-on learning at PCTI and the pathways it opens for students in skilled trades.

In addition to learning about specific job opportunities, students gained a better understanding of how union pathways support long-term career growth. Apprentices receive paid training, mentorship, and access to ongoing professional development, all while contributing to the critical infrastructure that supports our state.

PSEG Day highlighted the importance of introducing students to career options that align with their strengths and interests while meeting the growing demand for skilled professionals in the energy sector. The event left many students inspired and informed, better equipped to make decisions about their future after graduation.

We thank PSEG for their continued investment in education and career exploration, and we congratulate all participating students on taking an important step toward building impactful, community-focused careers.
